Prat Mallick

Principal

Prat Mallick is a Principal at Xfund, based in the firm’s Cambridge office in Harvard Square. Prior to joining Xfund, he was the co-founder and CEO of a YCombinator–backed cybersecurity startup. Before that, Prat served as the founding GTM hire at an AI-focused government contracting startup and conducted AI safety and foundation model regulation research with Professor Daniel Carpenter, the Allie S. Freed Professor of Government and Chair of the Department of Government at Harvard.

Prat previously worked at General Catalyst, where he helped launch the General Catalyst Institute, contributed to the firm’s Manifesto for Responsible AI, and supported GC’s acquisitions of La Famiglia and Venture Highway as part of its expansion into Europe and India. He also served as a Managing Director for GC Venture Fellows (formerly Rough Draft Ventures), where he led or supported investments in companies including Helsing, Mercor, Sapien, Civic Roundtable, Planelinks, Lightspeed, Taxo, and Context.

At Harvard, Prat served as President and Vice President of the Harvard Institute of Politics, the university’s largest student organization with more than 1,200 undergraduate members. He oversaw the IOP’s 16 programs, hosted conversations with leaders including President Joe Biden, President Volodymyr Zelensky, Senator Tim Scott, and Vice President Mike Pence, and founded the IOP Governance Lab which has gone on to incubate companies like A37, Veil, Riverbank Security, and Fed10.

Outside of Xfund, he serves on the Senior Committee for the Phillips Brooks House Association, the FAS Standing Committee on Public Service, and as an Ambassador for the Harvard Alumni Association. Prat graduated from Harvard College and lived in Leverett House.
